View Available Listings in Anderson Heights

Nestled just west of downtown Raleigh, Anderson Heights is one of the city's most eclectic historic neighborhoods.

The area was originally part of the Bloomsbury subdivision developed in the early 1900s before being rebranded as Anderson Heights in the 1920s.

Most of its homes were built between 1920 and 1950 in popular early 20th century styles like Craftsman, Tudor Revival, and Colonial Revival.

Local builders like York Properties constructed charming residences for professionals moving to Raleigh during its growth spurt.

Zoning allowed businesses on main roads with single family homes on side streets. Deed restrictions maintained the upscale character.

Today, Anderson Heights contains over 600 restored homes showcasing architecture from the 1920s alongside newer infill. Its location provides easy access to downtown while maintaining historic charm.

The neighborhood was designated a Raleigh Historic District in 2003.

Notable Sections and Features

Some of Anderson Heights' most distinct areas include:

Anderson Drive - Lined with elegant Tudor Revivals and Colonial Revivals on deep, wooded lots, this section formed one of Raleigh’s most prestigious addresses.

Glenwood Avenue - Charming craftsman bungalows built for Anderson Heights' middle class distinguish Glenwood as a more affordable section of the neighborhood.

White Oak Road - Towering oaks shade White Oak Road, which epitomizes Anderson Heights' lush, secluded feel near the heart of the city.

In addition to historic homes, Anderson Heights offers walkable access to downtown Raleigh. Mature trees form lush canopies over the streets.

Tim’s Perspective

As a Raleigh local, I often recommend Anderson Heights for its historic charm and convenience.

The neighborhood’s craftsman bungalows and revival styles offer unique architecture you can’t find in new construction.

Mature trees and walkability also give Anderson Heights wonderful character. For homebuyers seeking charm near dining, arts, and downtown, it’s an ideal fit.
