Book My Relocation Strategy CallWhat Is Rolesville, NC Actually Like to Live In?
Rolesville is a fast-growing northeast Wake County town where most people own their homes, a lot of them work from home, and downtown Raleigh is a 22-minute median drive from our tracked neighborhoods. You get newer houses on real lots and a small town that is rebuilding its Main Street. You give up a short drive to RTP and the airport.
The town is older than it looks. Rolesville was incorporated in 1837, making it the second-oldest town in Wake County, and it grew from a stagecoach stop on what is now US 401. The growth is recent: the town’s own budget puts its population boom at 150% from 2010 to 2020, and it is now home to almost 12,000 residents.
Is Rolesville a good place to live? Yes, if your work is in Raleigh, Wake Forest, or at home, and you want a newer house in a town that still feels small. It is a weaker fit if you commute to RTP or Durham every day. For homes and neighborhoods, see our Rolesville real estate and community guide.
Where Is Rolesville, and How Long Are the Commutes?
Rolesville sits in northeastern Wake County, about 6 miles from Wake Forest, with US 401 running through town toward Raleigh and I-540 to the south.
These are off-peak drive times we routed from 9 Rolesville communities. Rush hour runs longer, so test your real commute at the hour you would drive it.
| Destination | Median off-peak drive | Range by neighborhood |
|---|---|---|
| WakeMed North | 20 min | 16-22 min |
| Downtown Raleigh | 22 min | 18-26 min |
| Duke Raleigh Hospital | 24 min | 20-28 min |
| WakeMed Raleigh | 27 min | 24-31 min |
| UNC Health Rex | 33 min | 29-37 min |
| RDU Airport | 36 min | 33-40 min |
| Research Triangle Park | 39 min | — |
Rolesville points at Raleigh, not RTP. Downtown Raleigh is closer from here than from most of Wake Forest, but RTP and the airport sit on the far side of the city. Compare each community on the Rolesville neighborhoods page.
What Are Property Taxes in Rolesville, NC?
For the 2026 tax year, a home inside Rolesville town limits pays Wake County’s rate of 53.71 cents per $100 plus the town’s rate of 40 cents per $100, unchanged in the budget adopted May 5, 2026. Combined, that is $0.9371 per $100 of assessed value.
| Assessed value | Annual county and town tax |
|---|---|
| $500,000 | $4,686 |
| $750,000 | $7,028 |
| $1,000,000 | $9,371 |
Some Rolesville-addressed homes sit outside town limits and pay only the county rate plus a fire district. Confirm the exact address with the Wake County tax office before you budget.

Book My Relocation Strategy CallWho Lives and Works in Rolesville?
Rolesville is an owner’s town. Data USA puts homeownership at 92.5%, with a median household income of $149,565 and a median age of 40.6 in 2024. Nearly 28% of working residents worked from home, which explains how a town without a major employer keeps growing.
There is no big corporate campus in Rolesville. The largest industries among residents are professional and technical services and health care, and most commuters drive into Raleigh, Wake Forest, or the hospital corridor around WakeMed North. If you split your week between home and a Raleigh office, Rolesville makes that easy.
What Kind of Housing Will You Find in Rolesville?
Rolesville housing is mostly single-family homes in planned neighborhoods, and the town expects thousands more homes from several major developments. Here are communities we show often:
- The Village at Rolesville: a large neighborhood off Redford Place Drive, near Redford Place Park.
- Watkins Farms: a master-planned community off Watkins Road in western Rolesville.
- Carlton Pointe: roomier lots, with homes from builders including Brandywine Homes and ICG Homes.
- Granite Falls Estates: rolling, wooded lots on the newer side of town.
- Pine Glen: single-family homes on wooded half-acre to one-acre lots.
- Averette Ridge: an established resale neighborhood.
We left market prices out of this guide because they go stale quickly. Current higher-end homes are on our Rolesville luxury listings page, and if you want to build on a lot here, start with the Rolesville builders we track.
How Do Schools Work in Rolesville?
Rolesville is in the Wake County Public School System and has its own high school. Rolesville High School opened in 2013 when the old Wake Forest-Rolesville High School was split, and it enrolled 2,319 students in 2023-24. Rolesville Middle and Rolesville Elementary are in town as well.
Wake County assigns students by address, not by town name, and fast growth means assignments change. Confirm the current assignment for the exact address with WCPSS before you make an offer.

Book My Relocation Strategy CallWhat Is Changing on Rolesville’s Main Street?
Rolesville is rebuilding its downtown. The Main Street Project realigned Burlington Mills Road and reworked Main Street, with traffic shifted onto the new Burlington Mills Road in December 2025 and the final paving phase on North Main Street.
The bigger plan is the town’s Main Street Vision Plan, which the budget says will re-establish a town center, add more housing types, and open room for commercial development. That means a better downtown in a few years, and some construction and detours while it happens.
What Is There to Do in Rolesville?
Rolesville’s life runs through its three town parks and a handful of events that still bring the whole town out.
- Town parks: Main Street Park, Mill Bridge Nature Park, and Redford Place Park, plus a community center and greenways, including the Elizabeth Springs Greenway.
- Fourth of July: the town’s Independence Day celebration is held at Redford Place Park.
- Christmas parade: the Rolesville Christmas Parade runs down Main Street in December.
- Wake Forest next door: downtown Wake Forest’s restaurants and shops are about 6 miles away.
Who Is Rolesville For, and Who Should Skip It?
Rolesville fits people who want a newer home, a yard, and a small town, and whose week points toward Raleigh or a home office. It is a poor fit for daily RTP commuters and frequent flyers.
| Rolesville fits you if | Look elsewhere if |
|---|---|
| You work in Raleigh or at WakeMed North | You commute to RTP or Durham every day |
| You work from home part of the week | RDU is a weekly trip, at a 36-minute median |
| You want a newer single-family home on a real lot | You want a walkable downtown today |
| You want your kids at a high school in town | You want a town that is done growing |

How Our Team Helps You Decide Whether Rolesville Fits
Choosing Rolesville comes down to where you work, how often you go in, and which neighborhood gives you the lot and the school assignment you want. Those answers change by street, so the town name alone won’t settle it.
The Tim M. Clarke Team, with The Jim Allen Group at Coldwell Banker HPW, works across Rolesville and the rest of the Triangle. On a new build, we represent you, not the builder: we read the contract, the allowances, and the lot premiums before you sign. Tell us where you work and what you need from a home, and we will narrow Rolesville down to the neighborhoods worth your time, or tell you if Wake Forest fits you better.
