BUILDER PROFILE

Gomes Construction LLC

Gomes Construction LLC is a custom builder in the Raleigh-Durham Triangle, working in Raleigh and Wake Forest. It is listed in our custom and semi-custom builder directory rather than the production data set, so it holds no standing community inventory here and each build is priced from its own plan, lot and specification. The builder writes and presents that contract through its own representative; we represent the buyer instead.

Every sales consultant in a Gomes Construction LLC model home works for Gomes Construction LLC: the builder's contract, the builder's lender, the builder's incentives. Tim M. Clarke represents the buyer on the other side of that table. He compares Gomes Construction LLC communities, reads the contract and warranty before you sign, and attends the walkthroughs. Ask most custom builders how the house is framed and you will get a referral to the framing sub. Ask Gomes Construction LLC and you are talking to the framer.

Owner Matthew Gomes is a licensed general contractor and second-generation Wake County builder who completed his first home, a Cape Cod in Wake Forest, in 2018. Today the company builds custom single-family homes and frames houses for other builders, including production and multifamily work. Its pitch is plain: build it to last, and make sure it is easy to fix when the time comes.

This guide covers what Gomes publishes, how its building philosophy affects your house, and what to confirm before you sign.

Who Is Gomes Construction?

Gomes Construction LLC is a Wake County building company led by Matthew Gomes. Its home page says it serves Raleigh and the greater Research Triangle and can extend beyond the Triangle for larger projects.

The documented history

Matthew tells the story on the About page. He apprenticed under his father as a young man, “hauling materials, building French drains.” In 2017, after passing his contractor’s exam, he bought “the most affordable lot available in Wake Forest.” He finished his first home there in 2018 and has built single-family homes “at a steady pace” since.

The company now also provides framing carpentry for other builders and says it is expanding into trim carpentry and plumbing.

License and membership

The home page states that Gomes Construction LLC is licensed and insured, lists License Number L.83117, and says the company is a member of the Wake County Home Builders Association. Gomes Construction, LLC is listed as a builder member in the 2025 Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County directory, with an address on Old Stage Road in Raleigh. The website lists a mailing address in Willow Spring. The company phone is (919) 519-9219.

Where Does Gomes Construction Build?

Gomes publishes a service area instead of a list of neighborhoods: Raleigh and the greater Research Triangle, with Wake Forest as the site of its first home. The website does not name subdivisions or addresses of completed homes. If you have a lot, ask whether Gomes has built near it and for addresses you can drive past.

What Does Gomes Construction Build?

Gomes builds custom single-family homes and sells construction services to other builders and to homeowners.

Why the “easy to fix” approach matters

The Custom Homes page explains the logic. Crawl spaces, site-built roofs and stairs, and dimensional lumber mean a damaged roof or a staircase that needs widening can be repaired “using readily available materials, often without specialty vendors or costly engineering reports.” That is a practical answer for an owner who plans to stay twenty years.

Ask what it means for your plan. Engineered trusses and I-joists allow longer open spans, and the Services page says Gomes frames those systems for other builders. If you want a big open room or a vaulted ceiling, ask which framing method your design calls for.

The framing side

Gomes’ Services page gives unusual detail for a small builder. It frames non-vented roof and crawl space assemblies for low-HERS and net-zero builders, offers exterior insulation, California corners, and insulated headers, and says the crew is “Zip 2.0 framing trained.” It cites a non-vented stick-built roof that earned low air-change and blower-door scores verified by Southern Energy Management. That is framing for other builders, but it tells you what the crew knows how to do.

How Does Building With Gomes Work?

Gomes describes its custom-home process in broad strokes on the Custom Homes page:

  1. Consultation. You and Gomes identify where upgrades are worth the money and which features to refine.
  2. Design. Gomes’ architect partners turn sketches or a clear idea into “fully buildable, well-engineered plans.”
  3. Efficiency review. If you want it, Gomes coordinates third-party design and rating professionals to evaluate the home’s energy performance.
  4. Construction. Gomes builds with its own framing crew.

Ask for the schedule, the draw schedule, and how changes are priced once framing starts.

What Should You Verify Before Signing With Gomes?

Before signing with Gomes Construction, verify the license, the completed homes, the energy numbers, and the warranty. A builder who frames its own houses controls the part of the job most hidden behind drywall. You still want proof. Our guides to finding a Triangle builder and why the builder’s agent works for the builder explain how to keep someone on your side.

Confirm the license and the entity

Look up Gomes Construction LLC and license L.83117 with the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors. Check the license limitation against your project’s budget and confirm the same entity is on your contract.

Ask how many custom homes are complete

The website says Gomes has built homes “at a steady pace” since 2018 but does not give a count or addresses. Ask for the number of custom homes completed, three recent addresses, and owners you can call.

Get the energy rating promised in writing

Gomes “can coordinate” third-party raters. If efficiency matters to you, write the target into the contract: a HERS score, a blower-door number, or a certification, with who pays for testing.

Get the warranty in writing

Gomes’ site does not describe a warranty. Ask for the written terms before you sign and compare them with our home-builder warranty guide.

How Does Gomes Compare With Other Building Options?

Gomes is a small, owner-led custom builder with its own framing operation.

Option Framing Plans Builder access Best fit
Gomes Construction In-house crew Architect partners or your plans Direct to the owner Buyers who care about structure and long-term repairability
Larger custom builder Subcontracted Builder or outside architect Project manager Buyers who want a bigger portfolio to tour
Production builder Subcontracted, engineered systems Builder plans only Sales office Buyers who want amenities and speed
Resale home Existing Existing None Buyers who need to move now

Who Is a Strong Fit for Gomes Construction?

Gomes fits a buyer who wants to know how the house is put together and wants it built to be maintained.

The strongest candidates usually:

  • have a lot in Wake County or nearby;
  • care about framing, sound insulation, and energy performance;
  • want a builder who will talk about crawl spaces and roof systems in detail;
  • plan to own the house long enough for repairability to matter;
  • will check the license and visit completed homes.

It is a weaker fit for buyers who want a long list of finished neighborhoods, a published price sheet, or a model home.

Final Thoughts About Gomes Construction From Tim Clarke

A builder who started with the cheapest lot in Wake Forest, learned the trade from his father, and still runs his own framing crew is the kind of builder who knows where the problems hide. The repairability argument is honest and practical.

What Gomes does not publish, you should ask for: a count of finished homes, addresses, energy targets, and the warranty.

I have spent 17+ years in Triangle real estate. Our team builds as well as sells, so we know what a framing walkthrough should cover and what a custom contract should say about allowances and change orders. If a builder’s salesperson or listing agent is involved, that person represents the builder. We represent you.
