The most expensive mistakes in a custom home are made on paper. A hallway that reads fine on a floor plan feels narrow once the drywall is up. A kitchen island blocks the path to the pantry. By then, changing it costs real money.
On Point Construction builds the fix into its process. Every custom build includes an architectural 3D virtual walk-through of the home before construction begins, so you can stand in the rooms and change the plan while it is still cheap.
On Point is a husband-and-wife, family-owned builder of high-end custom homes in Wake County. Its new-build portfolio runs from 3,500 to more than 11,000 square feet. This guide covers what the record shows and what to verify before you sign.
Who Is On Point Construction?
On Point Construction is a family-owned and family-operated residential building company specializing in high-end custom homes, remodeling and restorations throughout Wake County. It is listed as a builder member in the 2025 Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County directory, and its website footer shows HBA and National Association of Home Builders membership logos.
The owners
On Point is owned by Scott and Fallen King, a husband-and-wife team and North Carolina natives with more than 20 years of experience in custom home building and remodeling. Their services include custom home construction, renovations and interior design, and the company says each project is design-built to the client’s specifications.
Client reviews on the site name both owners repeatedly and describe Fallen’s role in selections and design. One client writes that they “patiently waited to get on their schedule,” which tells you something about capacity.
The Southern Living credential
On Point is a member of the Southern Living Custom Builder Program. The company says joining required a review of its reputation, qualifications, experience, craftsmanship, financial stability and customer service. It is a selective program, and a useful outside signal. It is not a license or a warranty.
Where On Point builds
The company says it serves “Raleigh and surrounding communities” and the Wake County area. It does not publish a community list. One published review describes a renovation of a 25-year-old home in zebulon, which shows the reach extends across the county. Treat raleigh and Wake County as the core and ask where its recent new homes are.

What clients describe
The site carries more than ten client reviews. Several describe building from an empty lot, guidance through fixture, floor, tile and paint selections, budget updates during the build, and a suggested architect and vendors to simplify design. One client notes the owners “found the perfect house plan for us.” Reviews are curated by the builder, so use them as a list of things to confirm with references.
How Does Building With On Point Work?
On Point publishes a four-stage process on its Process page, plus the virtual walk-through on its home page:
- Discovery. Your ideas, photos and must-haves, along with general budget parameters, lot selection specifications and project objectives.
- Design. A review of initial home plans, materials and options, and the next steps. This is where the 3D virtual walk-through lets you experience the home before construction starts.
- Plan. A dedicated project manager oversees plans, materials and finishes, the budget and the schedule.
- Build. On Point coordinates permits, inspections and subcontractors through construction and the final walk-through.
The home page adds that On Point guides clients from plan selection and homesite preparation to finishes and final walk-through, “ensuring a streamlined process where timelines are kept and budgets are not exceeded.”
What Should You Verify Before Signing With On Point?
Before signing with On Point Construction, verify the license, recent homes in your size range, the contract structure and the warranty. Our guides to finding a Triangle builder and why the builder’s agent works for the builder explain how to keep someone on your side of a custom-build contract.
Confirm the license and the contact details
Match On Point Construction’s legal entity and license number on the contract to the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors. One records note: the 2025 HBA directory lists (919) 524-6558, while the company’s website lists (919) 796-9226. Use the website number and confirm both belong to the same company.
See homes in your size and price range
A 3,500-square-foot home and an 11,000-square-foot home are different projects. Ask for two or three completed homes close to the size you want, and call those owners.
Ask what the 3D walk-through covers
Ask who produces it, how many revision rounds are included, and whether it covers exterior, site and interior finishes. Get the cost, if any, in writing.
Understand the schedule and contract
Clients mention waiting to get on the schedule. Ask when your build could start, how long it should take, whether the contract is fixed price or cost-plus, and how allowances and change orders are priced.
Get the warranty in writing
On Point’s website does not describe a warranty. Ask for the written terms and compare them with our home-builder warranty guide.
How Does On Point Compare With Other Building Options?
| Option | Scale | Design tools | Pricing | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| On Point custom build | Small, owner-led | 3D virtual walk-through, in-house interior design | Quote per project | Buyers building 3,500+ sq ft who want the owners involved |
| On Point renovation or addition | Small, owner-led | Interior design | Quote per project | Owners improving a home they plan to keep |
| Architect plus separate builder | Varies | Full custom drawings | Bid after plans | Buyers who want a signature architect |
| Semi-custom builder | Larger | Plan library with options | Base prices published | Buyers who want faster decisions and fewer choices |
Who Is a Strong Fit for On Point Construction?
On Point fits a buyer planning a large custom home who wants to see it before it is built and wants the owners in the room.
The strongest candidates usually:
- own a Wake County lot or are buying one;
- are planning a home of 3,500 square feet or more;
- want help with selections and interior design from the builder’s side;
- are visual decision-makers who will use a 3D walk-through to refine the plan;
- can wait for a spot on a small builder’s schedule.
It is a weaker fit for buyers who need a quick move-in, published prices, or a home in a planned community with a builder’s model park.
Final Thoughts About On Point Construction From Tim Clarke
On Point does two things I like to see in a custom builder. The owners stay hands-on, and the plan gets tested in 3D before the foundation is poured. The Southern Living membership adds an outside check on reputation.
The gaps are the usual ones for a small builder: no published prices, no published warranty, no list of recent addresses. Ask for all three before you sign.
I have spent 17+ years in Triangle real estate. Our team builds as well as sells, so we know what to look for in a custom-build contract, an allowance schedule and a lot. We represent you; the builder represents the builder.
