Who was Stanton Homes?

Stanton Homes, Inc. was a custom home builder based in Apex. Stanley Ellsworth Williams II, known as Stan Williams, was president and CEO. The Better Business Bureau dates the company to 2006. It built in Apex, Raleigh, Cary, Fuquay-Varina, Morrisville and Pittsboro.

Two corrections for anyone searching the name. The company was led by Stan Williams; the records do not support a founder named Keith Stanton or a 1998 start. And a different, active company also called Stanton Homes works out of Kannapolis under license 56704 with a different owner. We found no evidence that it continued or acquired the Apex company.

Stanton Homes bankruptcy and license record

Stanton Homes, Inc. filed a Chapter 7 case in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina on February 6, 2020. The case closed on May 3, 2023 (case record). The BBB reports that the company sought dissolution (BBB).

Its North Carolina contractor license, 62855 (Building classification, qualifier Stanley Ellsworth Williams II), is canceled and inactive (BuildZoom).

If you own or are buying a Stanton home

  • With the bankruptcy case closed and the company dissolving, there is no builder to bring a warranty claim to. Look in the closing file for any third-party structural warranty, which is a separate contract.
  • Ask which manufacturer warranties on the roof, windows and HVAC equipment transfer to you.
  • Pull the permit and certificate of occupancy from the town or county.
  • Have a full inspection done, including the crawlspace or slab, grading and drainage.
  • Our builder warranty guide explains what survives a builder going out of business.
