Walk through a judged Parade home and the details start talking. A sightline lands exactly where it should. The kitchen works with three people in it. The porch feels like a room instead of leftover square footage. Awards do not make every decision for you, but they show where independent judges, industry peers, and local readers found work worth recognizing.

This guide covers 19 custom builders serving Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Apex, Pittsboro, Wake Forest, Youngsville, and nearby Triangle communities. Every award below was rechecked against a live source on October 21, 2026. Together, these builders account for 78 dated awards, nine annual Triangle Business Journal list appearances, and one 2026 International Builders' Show panel.

Parade of Homes Records Built Over Decades

The Triangle's longest Parade of Homes records reward builders who have repeated the result across different plans, lots, price divisions, and design eras.

Absolute Construction and Development

Absolute Construction and Development has one of the clearest medal records in Chatham County: eight Parade Gold awards from 2009 through 2023, six Silvers from 2013 through 2023, and Bronze awards in 2017 and 2023. The Pittsboro builder works in Chapel Ridge, Chatham Park, and surrounding parts of Chatham County.

Braswell Custom Homes

Braswell Custom Homes won 2023 Parade Gold for Nolan's Nest, 2023 Bronze for Highland Sunrise, and 2024 Silver for Highland House. Its current work reaches Wake Forest and Youngsville communities including Trinity Forest, Sorrell Oaks, Prescott Manor, Grand Highland Estates, and Hidden Lake.

Loyd Builders

Loyd Builders pairs a long Parade history with repeated MAME recognition. Recent wins include three 2024 MAME awards, the 2022 MAME Best of the Best Overall Custom Builder, the same overall custom-builder honor in 2020, Gold and Silver Parade medals in 2019, a 2018 Parade Gold, and a 2017 Parade Gold; today the Apex-based company builds in Raleigh, Durham, and northeast Chatham County, including Shadow Creek Estates, Revere, Highthorn, and Oldfourth.

Reward Builders

Reward Builders won the MAME Building Company of the Year award seven times: 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2017. Its work is concentrated around Cary and Holly Springs, with current focus areas including downtown Cary, Preston, Preston Village, Carpenter Village, Highcroft, 12 Oaks, and The Preserve at Jordan Lake.

BOLD Construction

BOLD Construction earned a 2022 Parade of Homes Gold, Chapel Hill Magazine's Best Builder honor every year from 2018 through 2024, and Chatham Magazine's matching Best Builder title across the same seven-year run. National Design and Professional Recognition

National design awards and professional honors look beyond one local price category. They can point to design execution, industry leadership, and a builder's ability to compete on a wider stage.

Hearthstone Luxury Homes

Hearthstone Luxury Homes, the independently owned Raleigh AR Homes franchise, won a 2023 NAHB Best in American Living Award for the Meridian model in the One-of-a-Kind Custom Home, 5,001-to-6,000-square-foot category. Hearthstone serves Wake, Chatham, Orange, and Durham counties, including custom work near Jordan Lake.

JF Builders & Associates owner Jeff Fike was named MAME Homebuilder of the Year in 1996. The Apex-based builder has worked across Wake County since 1985, including downtown Apex, downtown Cary, Lochmere, MacGregor Downs, Preston Forest, Sunset Ridge, Eagle Ridge, and The Preserve at Jordan Lake.

How to Use Awards When Choosing a Builder

Awards help most when you connect the winning work to the house you want to build.

  1. Match the award to your project. A kitchen award matters if the kitchen is your center of gravity. An outdoor-living award carries more weight when the porch, pool, and grading plan will drive the design.

  2. Look at repetition. One medal proves a builder delivered one strong judged home. Wins across several years show the team can repeat its process as plans, sites, and price divisions change.

  3. Tour the winning home or study its plan. Pay attention to circulation, natural light, storage, window placement, transitions between materials, and how the home meets the lot. Those decisions tell you more than a trophy photo.

  4. Ask who produced the winning work. Find out which architect, interior designer, project manager, cabinet shop, and trade partners were involved, then ask which members of that group would work on your home.

  5. Compare the award category with the contract scope. A Parade medal evaluates a completed home. A MAME award may recognize design, marketing, or the building company. A readers' award reflects local reputation. Each answers a different question.

  6. Keep fit at the center of the decision. Your lot, budget, architectural direction, communication style, and selection schedule still have to line up with the builder's operation. The best award record is the one backed by a process that fits your project.
